STUDY ON EFFECT OF HOLY BASIL AND INDIAN BORAGE ON VARIOUS PATHOGENIC ORGANISMS
Abstract :
During COVID-19 Pandemic many precautionary measures were taken by people of India of different states to prevent the disease and its progression to severe stages. One such measure followed was consumption of Holy Basil (Ocimumsanctum) and Indian Borage (Coleusamboinicus). The present study focussed on finding out the scientific evidence of these herbs on the common pathogens such as Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas sp, Staphylococcus aureus and Proteus sp. during in vitro condition. From the study it was clear that Ocimum sanctum is a potent antimicrobial agent which could inhibit the growth of pathogens in the culture media and raw Coleus ambonicus also exhibited antimicrobial property against the test pathogens, whereas steamed Coleus ambonicus was less effective on these pathogens
