Antibacterial efficacy of essential oils (EOs) of Ocimum sanctum, Menthaarvensis, Citrus lemon and Citrus maximawere tested against some enteric pathogens viz., Escherichia coli,Staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella typhi, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Bacillus subtilisby filter paper disk-diffusion and tube-dilution methods. The essential oil of O. sanctum resulted in more inhibitory antibacterial activity against all enteropathogensthan that of M.arvensis and Citrus spp.The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of the non-volatile oil of the O.sanctum, M.arvensis, C. maxima and C. lemonwas 600 ppm against all the enteric pathogens.
