Seasonal diversity of diving birds in the Periyakulam Lake, Tiruchirappalli,
Tamil Nadu, India

Abstract :

Biosynthesis of nanoparticles by plant extract is currently under exploitation. The present study deals with the synthesis of silver nanoparticles using flower extract of Nelumbo nucifera. The extracellular synthesis of silver nanoparticles occurred during the exposure of flower extract to 1 mM aqueous silver nitrate solution. Complete reduction of silver ions was observed after 48 h of reaction at 30°C under shaking condition. The colour change in reaction mixture was observed during the incubation period, because the formation of silver nanoparticles is able to produce particular colour in the reaction mixture due to their specific properties of surface piasmon resonance. Formation of silver nanoparticles was confirmed by UV-Visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction pattern, Scherrer’s formula and Fourier transform infra-Red (FT-IR) spectroscopy analysis. They showed that the synthesized silver nanoparticles were capped with bimolecular compounds from flower extract of Nelumbo nucifera.
